Introduction to my book

“When people are faced with extreme challenges, we cannot avoid wondering why me? I personally feel there is no true answer to that question, no matter how many times I asked. One of my greatest challenges in life was surviving cancer. There is more to surviving cancer than defeating the disease; it is also surviving what comes after treatments. For me, the challenge was not only my cancer, but my husband’s cancer as well.”

This is the opening paragraph of my book “Cancer Widow, Cancer Survivor”.

My husband, Tom, and I were cancer patients at the same time. My book is a journal form of our experiences, challenges, and endurances as we fought our cancers together. For me, there were many things as big as or even bigger than the cancer. I became a survivor, a widow, disable and for a while, very poor. Overcoming these obstacles is why I feel life after cancer is bigger than the cancer itself. I value my life after cancer because I live for both myself and for Tom, who did not survive. I value my life because I have seen wonders, felt great emotions, and created amazing memories.

A thought for you, also from my book:

“Not all who get cancer survive. Not all who get cancer die. All who get cancer are truly unique people who must face a challenge of endurance, faith, hope and trust. My husband’s struggle to live inspires me every day.”
